Junior SAT
About the Test
The SAT is one of two accepted entrance tests required by most US undergraduate programs for admissions consideration (the other exam is the ACT). The test is composed of three sections, Critical Reading, Writing and Math, which are scored out of 800 each for a maximum score of 2400. The entire test, except a 25-minute essay, is multiple choice and composed of 10 sections ranging from 10 to 25 minutes. Finally, the SAT is held worldwide throughout the normal US school year (first exam in October, last exam in June).
Students applying to top 25 US universities typically attain a minimum of close to 2200. Most students in Hong Kong do exceptionally well in the Math section but score worst in Critical Reading. While SAT courses help greatly with the Math and Writing sections and can offer quick fixes for students with problems in those two sections, Critical Reading improvements require more disciplined attention.
