SAT Teaching Position in Hong Kong

About the Job

This is not your typical “work in asia” job where you stay for a year as a NET or JET or X’ET for a third party and then they ship you off somewhere else. You will be working with myself and a small team of amazing instructors to help Capstone become the most elite SAT prep center in Hong Kong. You will not be slaving away or transported to various places (you will work in our office located in Causeway Bay, one of the most popular shopping/business district) in probably one of the nicest private education centers in Hong Kong. You will also be co-teaching with me, and I am more your fellow staff/colleague/friend than your “boss”. This is a great opportunity for someone who has amazing talent to communicate and teach people and who would like to do something different in their careers which still has an “upside” but is not constrained to just doing some typical “ibanking” or “consulting” job. The students you work with are typically very smart and already have a good grasp of English (this is not ESL teaching), they simply need better guidance when it comes to SAT prep.

We are looking for one or two people to join us.  If you are selected you will be part of a 3 - 5 person special SAT team that will likely be promoted in various advertisements to help build our reputation.  The emphasis for Capstone is on teaching quality.  If you care about your students, know how to motivate them and can teach them well, this is a great education venture to be a part of.  Because of our current stage of growth, it is also a great opportunity for those who have entrepreneurial ambitions alongside their teaching passion.

About Capstone

Capstone is a boutique education consultancy founded in 2003 that helps students in the area of Writing, Debate, SSAT and SAT. Capstone is small, but it is filled with fun people who genuinely care about their students.  This is a great place for people who have passion about teaching, is enthusiastic and upbeat, and wants to be a part of something special.  As a business, we are looking to expand into other educational ventures in Hong Kong and the neighboring South China region.  As such, every member that joins is not only considered for their teaching ability, but also their ability to contribute to our company's long-term growth.

For those who join, we like you here for a minimum of one year, but if you do well and you want to stay, there are numerous leadership opportunities as we expand both in geographical region and in adjacent industries. Start date would be ASAP (but likely late August or early September).

What We Require:

- Top US Undergrad degree (preferably a top 10 and/or Ivy League university)

- Ability to teach Eng Lit or Writing is also a big plus

- Masters from a Teaching College is a plus

- Knowledge of university admissions or previous experience in the admissions office is a big plus

- Previous evidence of passionate and enthusiastic personality (especially in teaching context)

- Exemplary SAT scores (2300+)

- Strong academic exposure to writing and English literature

- Genuine desire to want to help students improve

- Sense of Humor is a plus

- Be a genuinely nice person

What You Will Do:

- Teach SATs in both group and one on one classes

- Teach Writing (mostly writing style) and English literature in group or private classes if it is within your capabilities

- Help develop and establish SAT curriculum (one is already in place, but if a better one can be developed, we can work together to integrate it)

- Be a good role model for students and give them honest advice on university choices

- Help out with university application consulting with some students

- Help out Capstone admin by talking to prospective students and their parents

- Just be an all-around nice person and help contribute to our easy-going and pleasant work environment
