Our Instructors

 

We are confident that our team of instructors is among the most select and capable group of teachers in Hong Kong.  Every Capstone instructor has passed a stringent entrance examination that test in-depth understanding of the subject they teach.  Instructors are also continually assessed by students and our curriculum heads to ensure that students both benefit and enjoy attending classes. Below are some of our key instructors at Capstone.

 

Doretta has an MFA in Writing from Columbia University. As well, she earned a BA in English Literature and a BFA in Creative Writing from The University of British Columbia. In New York, she worked as a production editor for children's publishing house Scholastic Inc. She is the author of four nonfiction books for children. At Capstone she teaches Academic Writing and English Literature.

 

Helen graduated Magna Cum Laude from the College of William and Mary (US top 30) while double majoring in International Relations and Chinese Language and Literature. While as a Fulbright Scholar, she completed her Masters in Law from HKU. She has a keen enthusiasm for literature and writing which she shares with her students and possesses extensive experience working with scholarship candidates in the US. She is also one of our Admissions Consultants.

 

Hofan has accumulated a decade of teaching and learning experience in the US, the UK, Poland and France. She has also taught English Drama at local secondary schools and directs her own production company (producing and participating in various productions throughout the year). She graduated from the IB program at Li Po Chun United World College and received her Bachelor’s in Peace and Conflict Education/ Dance from Swarthmore College (#1 US liberal arts college). At Capstone she teaches Academic Writing, English Literature, and Debate & Analysis and is the Advanced English Head, overseeing the quality control of teacher and student performance.

 

Homei, an English graduate from the University of Toronto (and also a graduate from Li Po Chun United World College), teaches our younger students. While in Canada, he spent a year teaching in Ivy Active Learning, a prestigious tutoring academy in Toronto teaching English, the SSAT and the SAT. He teaches Academic Writing at Capstone.

 

Janice graduated from Swarthmore College (#1 US liberal arts college) with a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Studies. Self-enrolling in the HKCEE and HKAL English Literature programs, she earned distinctions in both exams. Besides English lit, Janice was also a finalist of the SCMP Student Linguist Of The Year Award, and a recipient of the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Prize. She currently is the Student Development Advisor at Capstone, and also teaches English Literature and Academic Writing.

 

Ronald, the founder of Capstone, has a BBA (Hons) and Masters in Engineering (MIT), and is completing his MBA (University of Chicago). He has extensive experience coaching students of all ages, and is involved with all areas of Capstone’s services. He teaches Writing, Debate, SAT, and GMAT and also works as an admissions consultant. He was awarded teaching awards from MIT when he achieved near perfect ratings (as voted by students) in teaching quality while teaching Entrepreneurship and SAT courses to hundreds of Massachusetts-area high school students in MIT’s famed ESP program. In his own SAT and GMAT scores, he scores 99th and 98th percentile respectively.

 

Tyler graduated from Carleton College (top 5 US liberal arts college) in the US with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. During his time at Carleton he also published a bi-weekly Christian newsletter and later worked as a freelance writer for various publications. He is currently completing his LLB/JD at Chinese University of HK while recently completing a summer internship with Baker & McKenzie. Before coming to Capstone he had taught intensive English courses to local Hong Kong students through the English Learning Institute. At Capstone, he works with our primary school students in Academic Writing and Debate & Analysis classes.
